My First American Cooking🥑🥗🥩
Hello, guys. Yesterday we got acquainted with our new American friend Stacey. Frankly, she came off as a very lovely woman because she was really nice and hospitable to us, and in general, it was so kind of her to teach us how to cook some American dishes. So that I’m really grateful for her for such a splendid opportunity to cook together with her and to learn a couple of new recipes. Well, inspired enough I’d even cook something for my family to impress them on the upcoming weekend.
Let me tell you, the atmosphere in Stacey’s house was awesome. It was sort of mixture of two cultures there. She has got a regular kitchen with many items like toaster (which by the way is really cool because it changes colors while toasting bread), blender, stove, oven and other kitchen stuff which make her kitchen look like typical Russian one. But there was something American there, you know, all of those American recipe books and other books in English which were on beautiful small book shelves, her wooden kitchen cabinets, the green rocking chair — all of these things looked so American.
While having lunch we’re talking to Stacey about our university, Russia and The United States of America and, of course, she talked us about herself. We were impressed by her story especially how she met her husband at the railway station. It was so cool to listen to her.
After we met, Stacey told us to separate into a few small groups to be responsible for cooking one dish. Lisa, Ksyu, Stacey and I were to make tuna salad and avocado toasts.
Tuna salad:
Ingredients:
4 cans of tuna in brine;
2 cucumbers;
some dill;
1/5 teaspoon of mustard
mayonnaise to taste;
2 celery stocks.
What you should do:
- Open the canes and pour out the liquid to drain tuna
- Put the tuna in the deep bowl
- Chop cucumbers, celery and dill and put them into the bowl
- Add mustard and mayonnaise and mix the salad
Avocado toasts:
Ingredients:
2 ripe avocados;
olive oil;
lemon juice;
a loaf of white bread.
What you should do:
- Peel the avocados with your hands(as they’re ripe the skin is easy to remove, also peeling with hands allows a ripe avocado to save its vitamins as the majority of them are rather close to the skin)
- Remove the seeds from the avocados with a knife and mash them with a fork
- Add some lemon juice and olive oil
4. Stir the avocado puree
5. Take a loaf of white bread and slice it carefully (or feel free to buy sliced bread as we did)
6. Toast the bread and then cut every piece into two parts
7. Grease the toasts with the avocado spread and enjoy!
You can also put your tuna salad on the toats or just eat it like a regular green mixed salad. It all depends on your preferences.
Frankly, the other dishes were also cool and really delicious, for example, the pumpkin pie, brownies, and the chicken pie.
To sum up, we had fun and enjoyed really mouthwatering American food and also took in some American traditions and customs which Stacey shared with us.
Yummy!
Hugs,
Sandy❤️
