The 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio
Well, guys. I got an assignment to do online research about the Olympic Games in Rio which were held from the fifth of August till the twenty-first of August. By the way, these games were one of the most unforgettable for me, because my family and I watched them on TV together and it was really nice.
The most breathtaking part of any Olympics is the Opening Ceremony where every country which holds the Olympics feels free to show off. And that’s cool because people around the world can learn something new about other countries, their customs, national symbols, and costumes.
Generally, there were eleven thousand two hundred and thirty-eight athletes took part in these Olympic Games. Also, there were two hundred and seven countries which provided their best athletes to take part in three hundred and six events.
Let’s talk about sports which were introduced at the Olympics. Frankly speaking, I have found some new events for me. For instance:
Cycling Mountain Bike — is a sport of riding bicycles off-road. (I consider this one very dangerous)
Cycling BMX — it is a bicycle motocross.
Wrestling Greco-Roman — this style of wrestling forbids holds below the waist, this is the major difference from freestyle wrestling.
Triathlon — is a multisport race which includes three continuous endurance races.
Taekwondo — is a Korean martial art, usually characterized by head-height kicks jumping and spinning kicks, and fast kicking techniques.
Gymnastics Rhythmic- it’s a sort of gymnastics where individuals or groups of five manipulate a ball, hood, clubs or ribbon.
Well, our country was decorated with fifty-six medals: nineteen of them were gold, eighteen were silver and nineteen were bronze. Russia won gold medals for judo, fencing, tennis, gymnastics, wrestling Greco-Roman, boxing, synchronized swimming, wrestling freestyle, and handball.
Also, I’ve found a few interesting facts about The 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil:
1) The Opening and Farewell ceremonies took place at the Maracana stadium which set the record of attending of the most enormous amount of football fans.
2)Brazil added Golf to the list of main events of the Olympics after one-hundred-and-twelve-break. The last competitions were in nineteen and four.
3)Vinicius was chosen as a national symbol of the Olympic Games. He’s a yellow cute animal that looked like a cat. He was named after Brazil musician Venisious de Moress.
